November, rich for the sports events,  is about to meet the VIII Chess Cup of the Governor of Khanty-Mansiysk autonomous okrug – Ugra (stage of the Russia Chess Cup), which will take place in Khanty-Mansiysk from 14 to 24 November.

There are more than 100 chess players from Russia, Ukraine, Belorussia and Azerbaijan who have already applied for the competition. Among them there are such famous chess players as Anton Korobov (2702), Nikita Vitugov (2700), Alexey Dreev (2654) and Igor Kurnosov (2645). The Ugra team will be represented by Alexey Pridorozhny (2541), Nikolay Kabanov (2486), Svetlana Bezgodova (2100) and other players of the okrug. Besides, the players who failed to get through the first round of the Women’s World Chess Championship 2012 will also be able to take part in the stage of the Russia Chess Cup.

There is no age limit for the Governor’s Cup, so the players aged from 14 to 70 will take part in two tournaments “A” and “B”.  Tournament A is a Russia Cup stage, open tournament with the FIDE rating counting, Swiss system 9 rounds, players with rating 2351 or higher (on 1 October 2012) take part, time control 1 hour 30 minutes with 30 seconds adding after each move.  Tournament B is an open tournament with the FIDE rating counting, Swiss system 9 rounds, all interested take part regardless of title and qualification, with the rating of 2350 ELO points (on 1 October 2012), time control 1 hour 30 minutes with 30 seconds adding after each move.

Total prize money of the Governor’s Cup accounts for 1 161 000 roubles.

As it is reported in the organizing committee of the tournament, the main targets of the tournament are: development and popularization of chess in Khanty-Mansiysk autonomous okrug – Ugra and Russian Federation; rise of sports mastery level and the participant’s qualification; strengthening of interregional and international sports relations.

The tournament will take place in the building of the open stadium “Ugra-Athletics”.
